Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide clients across the Gulf Coast region with civil, structural, and environmental engineering services for a spectrum of projects from conception to completion. We are working together as a highly skilled team using our vast experience and common sense to yield practical cost-effective solutions. We give our clients that small company attention with the big company results.

The History

Compton Engineering was formed in 1973 by the late Lloyd J. Compton, P.E. Although this was the first time Mr. Compton began operation of the present company, he was formally a partner in the consulting firm of Gautier and Compton from 1964 to 1968. Mr. Compton graduated from the University of Colorado in 1952 with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. From 1953 to 1955, Mr. Compton served in the U.S. Army. In 1955, Lloyd joined International Paper Company where he was responsible for new plant construction. He worked for International Paper Company nine years until joining the consulting firm of Gautier and Compton in 1964.

In 1980, the company became a partnership between Lloyd J. Compton, P.E. and his son, L. David Compton, P.E. David Compton graduated from Auburn University in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. David worked for Texaco in Port Arthur, Texas, for three years prior to joining the firm. His responsibilities at Texaco included final construction reviews, start-up and operations of a new olefin (ethylene/propylene) facility.

In 1981, the company was incorporated under the name of Compton Engineering, Inc. with Lloyd Compton and David Compton as the major stockholders in the business.

Originally, the firm was strictly oriented toward civil and structural engineering. As the company grew, the emphasis gradually began to include the environmental field. Presently, Compton Engineering provides our clients with a multitude of engineering services including civil, structural and environmental design, and construction phase services.

In 1989, Compton Engineering expanded their structural and civil engineering capabilities with the addition of Aaron Masters, P.E. Mr. Masters earned a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Tennessee Technological University in 1967. Mr. Masters also holds a master's degree in Civil Engineering from Tennessee Technological University, and has been in the consulting engineering field for over 30 years.

As Compton Engineering's business has expanded across the Gulf Coast, an office has been opened in Hancock County. This office has been in operation since 1993. The office was opened and managed by Bill Johnson, who began working with Compton Engineering in 1992, in conjunction with solid waste management planning in Mississippi. Bill has moved into project and marketing management and Geoffrey Clemens, P.E., who joined the firm in 1994, is now managing the Hancock County Office. Geoff has experience in utilities, road drainage, industrial buildings and marine related facilities. Geoffrey also serves as Hancock County 's State Aid Engineer and County Engineer.

Most recently, Compton Engineering has opened an office in Biloxi, Mississippi. This office is managed by Steve Oivanki, P.G., and is dedicated to providing the same high quality engineering services as our Pascagoula and Bay St. Louis offices have provided to clients over the years. At this location, Mr. Oivanki can provide support to both our Pascagoula and Bay St. Louis offices as well as other clients. With this addition in 1999, Compton Engineering now has three office locations with nearly 14,000 square feet of facilities and 44 employees.
